Fly Fishing & Oregon Pinot on the Deschutes River
Part of living life through rosé coloured glasses is unplugging and enjoying natures glory. For Memorial Day weekend we went off the grid to the Deschutes River in Oregon. Fly fishing, hiking, homemade meals, and Oregon Pinot Noir are natures true gifts. We took a trip down to the ranch at Kaskela to stay in a little cabin situated along the river.
Lucky, lucky us! We could enjoy the 2012 Domaine Serene Evenstad Reserve! The 2012 vintage was lauded as a Goldilocks vintage with a warm spring and a dry summer. Lovely balance, with acidity and complexity. We loved the soft texture and how it paired perfectly with chuck roast and a light salad.
Hiking along the Deschutes loop line we came across some gorgeous Balsamroot and this little bull snake waking up from a midmorning nap.
J. Christopher's Willamette Valley 2011 vintage makes my heart sing. Blended from 3 AVA's around the Willamette Valley and captures the region in a raw tantalizing way. Aromas of cranberry, mocha and herbs and a healthy dose of acidity to make it a solid wine to pair with food. We paired it with a classic salmon dinner with light garnish of lemon and grilled asparagus.
Keep drinking and living with that rosy perspective! XO, Ren
