Domaine de la Bastide Blanche Bandol Rouge 2013

Tits magee amiright? That's one hot date I got there!

Sometimes, out of the blue, with no respect to your schedule, Friday calls. By sometimes, I mean relatively regularly... like weekly. When Friday calls, just like when death knocks at the door, you simply must answer. After getting all dolled up, we hit up a wine bar in Midtown, NYC called Somm Time. While originally, it was just the name that made my heart skip a beat (I'm a sucker for a good pun), the list made me swoon. I couldn't help myself; I just had to snag a bottle of this 2013 La Bastide Blanche Bandol Rouge.

Opting for a seat outside, we warmed up over the cheese and charcuterie boards (yes, plural, don't judge) and this magnificent little number.

The Wine

Layers of dark tobacco and leather with a firm structure, honestly, this wine is my dark, twisted fantasy.  Bandol though, it's exactly that: dark & twisted. Black coffee, decaying flowers, deep black currant and just the right amount of acidity to keep you wanting more. This bottle was particularly feisty. Like The grim reaper, in a comedic comic book series? (I looked this idea up, it's actually a thing).

This wine and its shadowy archetype gave us a laissez-faire attitude for the rest of the evening... with complete lack of regard to our future selves, we made living in the moment an undeniable priority.

Drink this if you like dark, ominous wines that supply more nuance and ruggedness than you’re every day domestic syrah.*

There she goes.

There she goes.

*No shade to domestic Syrah intended here. Truly.
