Tasting with Travis at Pepper Bridge
Wella wella wella, the trip through Walla Walla was spectacular. The first tasting of my trip was with Travis at Pepper Bridge wines. Travis instantly took me on as her new best friend, a friendship that was enlightening on both a wine knowledge and personal perspective. In my tasting notes I literally wrote, "Travis is amazing, can we be friends in real life?". She takes me though some of Pepper Bridge's classic wines. Testing vintage variation between the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon was my favorite part of the experience. The 2012 was more closed off than the 2013, a fact that took me by surprise. The 2013 was brimming with lush purple and black fruit. It was brooding and lengthy.
We take a trip through the winemaking facilities. I'm visibly excited and Travis can tell. She starts walking me through and explaining various sorting and crushing machines, getting into super nerdy detail. I seriously love this woman!
We soon take a short drive down to Amavi, the fun-loving younger sister of Pepper Bridge. We talk and enjoy the wines until she looks up and says, "Oh my god, you have to go to Gramercy Cellars, let me call my friend, she can get you in." Alright, she really is my BFF.
