Yes Way Gamay

When it comes to learning wine, I think the best part is when the stars align, the illusions fade and you realize just how fun it can actually be. Cast away the fancy suits, the pins, the notecards (oh god the notecards...) and enjoy. Recently, I reunited with a friend of mine from the certified sommelier exam we took in May. We parked ourselves at a wine bar on the Lower East Side. Whilst enjoying a bottle, a ploughman's platter and the eye candy provided by Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels ; we sang praise over the joy that is gamay. Tremendous and unassuming, gamay can invoke a lightness of heart in any poor soul.

Our bottle,  Justin Dutraive's "Les Bullands" was packed with juicy cherry and funky floral notes. The juice dances across the tongue like a teeny tiny ballerina before class, beaming with pride and promise. At only 22 years old Justin Dutraive - talk about eye candy amiright? - created this, his first gamay with character and genuine heart.

We drank the night away lauding the unassuming qualities of Beaujolais. "Beaujolais is what you bring and you know the party is about to start."
